Laura Monk still making music/Foxfire Book is here!

It seems kind of funny that the last post on this page was about being included in the new 50th Anniversary edition of Foxfire.  Here I am to tell you that the book is here and making it’s debut tomorrow, Saturday, Sept 3, 2016 at the Decatur Book Festival.  I have not seen the actual book nor held it in my hands yet, but I have a picture of the cover.  So excited to see the “article” in print. Truly, time does fly…the children in this video are so grown up now…but how wonderful that we have captured them in this...

A Little Excitement To Share

This past Saturday, my sister, Anne, and I left home to drive up to Mountain City, Ga.  Home of Foxfire.  The very place where LMHC filmed our video, Appalachia Goodbye.  I have known about Foxfire for quite sometime…indeed, most Georgians are aware of the series of books that came from the English program at Rabun Gap Nacoochee School(and later Rabun County High School).  It’s a great story….if you aren’t familiar with it and want to know more please click this link for more information. Anne and I were headed up...

Making music, making a difference

Making music, making a difference

There are so many talented musicians doing wonderful things for others with their music.  This sharing of ones talent is truly a gift of self….while the enjoyment of playing and performing is still there….when a musician, or any artist really, gives of their craft for a cause there is more there than just an action.  At least, that is how I see it. We are so honored and excited to be playing at a wonderful event called “The Gathering” on Thurs. Oct 23, 2014.  This is the yearly fundraising event held at and for City of...

What are you doing in June?

Well, come on and let us know.  What’s the big thing on your calendar? We are hoping to be able to share some news by the end of June….working hard on some “new” things that we think will make a big difference in our music. In the meantime things have been hectic around here….we are recuperating from the years events, ie. surgery, losing PJ to a new home state, finding ourselves a new home, packing, moving, and trying to settle in to a routine….it’s coming together and we are feeling pretty good about...

You’ll Never Believe Where We’re Playing Next!

Looks like we have one more winter blast before we get to officially say Hello Spring!  We are hoping to give it a little push when we play at Abbott’s Bar and Grill Sat, March 8.  This long standing neighborhood “joint” welcomes new faces and offers exceptional food (not the usual bar fare), excellent selection of adult beverages and some pretty good music.  We hope to see you there! The trio that we are now took a spin at The Red Clay Theater, in Duluth, Ga.  We played the Open Mic a few weeks back.  Lots of fun and we...

Surprises…..Once In A Lifetime

Surprises that are once in a lifetime! There are really very few…speaking for myself. I’ve had friends give me wonderful surprise parties…but there was still an inkling that something was up….you know that “ I suspect” feeling? So… ‘So Far’…the true surprises that have happened to me were finding out the sex of my two children when they were born…not ahead of time(both of them wonderful boys…now men!). Another time was when my sweet husband, John(bass player!), told me he loved me after we were only dating about a month! That was...

Coming Together To Begin Anew!

Here we go….this music journey just keeps on going…new roads and new songs ahead of us.  We are now a trio and mapping a new road and a new somewhat smaller sound…but we think this is a good thing.  You know when life gives you lemons……so here we go! Working on some new intimate venues to play in this year…some great spots in the works and as they become definite we will start to post them. In the meantime mark your calendars and bring your mittens to Blue Ridge Ga where LMHC Lite will be playine at the...

Hello 2014!!!!

Is it just me or does this really sound futuristic?  2014 the start of a new year and, we hope, lots of great new things! ….not sure what lies ahead of us…but we certainly know that the past has blessed us with many great memories.  PJ has promised that time permitting, he will be joining us at some gigs as the year progresses. In the meantime we are jumping right in as a trio with a gig at The Red Light Cafe, Thur. Jan 16th as part of their weekly Bluegrass/Americana nights lineup.  We know this is a school night and ITP but we...

Sometimes change is just so hard….but necessary!

It has been way too long since I have posted on the site. Things have been a bit crazy around the LMHC front. So it’s time to catch everyone up…. Our wonderful, funny, talented and loveable drummer, PJ Engeman has moved to North Carolina…..hence the change is hard part of this story. We will miss him, but his reason for leaving is a good and noble one. One we all hope our kids would do for us when the time comes. PJ and Joan moved to be closer to PJ’s parents. When it became evident that they needed him close by they didn’t hesitate to take...
